Have you heard there’s no more WhatsApp for millions of people in the new year!? This is important information and may affect you.

Due to an update of the popular WhatsApp it will no longer be compatible on millions of peoples devices from 1st January 2021. In the light of this news we’ve laid out everything you need to know to find out whether you will be one of those affected.

Anyone who has an older Apple or Android device will be affected by this update. These devices will no longer support the latest version of the app. You will either have to update your operating system if you can, but if you can’t and still want to be able to use WhatsApp you will unfortunately need to buy a new phone.

Although the majority of people won’t be affected by this update there are still millions who will be and need to take action.

These phones will lose WhatsApp support in the new year:

  • Apple iPhone 1-4
  • Samsung Galaxy S2
  • HTC Desire
  • LG Optimus Black
  • Motorola Droid Razr
  • Any Android released before 2010

If you have one of the phones listed here it unfortunately means that your devices operating system cannot update to a version where WhatsApp would still work. This means that you either no longer use WhatsApp or you buy a new device.

Apple phones which will need updating to at least iOS 9:

  • Apple iPhone 4S
  • iPhone 5
  • iPhone 5S
  • iPhone 6
  • iPhone 6S

If you have one of the Apple phones listed above it means that you will still be able to use WhatsApp as long as you make sure your operating system is up to date. To check which software, you are using on an iPhone go to Settings>General>Software Update. This is where you can not only check your current operating system but also update it.

Android phones which will need updating to at least Android OS 4.0.3:

  • Samsung Galaxy S3 and newer
  • Samsung Galaxy Note
  • HTC Sensation
  • HTC Thunderbolt
  • LG Lucid
  • Motorola Droid 4
  • Sony Xperia Pro and newer

Again if you have one of the Android phones listed above it means that you will still be able to use WhatsApp as long as you make sure your operating system is up to date. To check which software, you are using on most Android devices go to Settings>System>Advanced>System Update. This is where you can not only check your current operating system but also check for updates.

In conclusion, there will be no more WhatsApp for millions of people in the new year if you have an older Apple or Android device. You need to check that your operating is up to date or you may lose the use of WhatsApp on the 1ST January 2021. Some devices it may not be possible to update to an operating system which will support the new WhatsApp update. In this case you will need to either no longer use WhatsApp or you will need to buy a new device.
